Home Based Business on the Internet - What's Next?

How many times have you read about someone or, better yet, have seen someone on TV that has invented this little doodad that has made him or her a millionaire. Then at that moment, you said "Why can't I do that?". We all have done that. The one that comes to mind is the Intel commercial with this guy who helped invent the USB. As he walks through the room everyone is falling all over him for an autograph.

Well, we all wish we could do that and the truth is, we can. It just depends on what you call an invention. The doodad can be anything, even a website. We all can be inventors of our own unique websites and businesses. Many people think about "inventing" their own business but think that it's impossible, too hard, too involved, or too much work.

It's none of those things, especially impossible. If you take the time to think it through, you may realize at least one important thing. If you are reading this, then you already have the most important tool that you need. A computer. They call it the World Wide Web for a reason - it is world wide and the computer puts you, literally, in touch with the world. And you have the most important asset you will ever need - you.

Not that long ago, I was afraid to even touch a computer. I couldn't even play a game on one. I thought surely that I would hit the wrong key or button and kaboom, the thing would blow sky high never to be put back together again. Then I had a job where I had to learn how to use and work with a computer. I found out that it wasn't that scary after all and it was downright hard to blow one up. It's like everything else in this world, it takes time to feel comfortable with something new, especially technology. And when you're a baby boomer, it's even a little tougher.

When I was finally fed up with working for someone else, I bought a desktop with the sole idea of starting my own business. Then the question "What's next?" How do I go about starting a business and what are the first steps I need to take? I found that I needed to decide what I was going to sell. I don't care what anyone says, if you're going to do business, you're going to be selling something, mainly yourself. So, was I going to sell a product or service.

I decided to do both. Sell a combination of rel=nofollow [http://hibzzusa.com]products and services. The services would be mostly free as an aid to the products I would offer. Great, now next on the agenda would be creating a name or domain for the business. It should be short, easy to remember, and most of all, available. It should also relate to my products or services. The domain name, or URL, has to be registered, so I went to GoDaddy to check the availability of the name I'd chosen and then register it. I went with GoDaddy because of their reputation, customer support, and pricing.

Now I had a domain name (URL) and it was time to find a server or hosting service. You have to have a host or you won't be on the web. All of these services have machines out there somewhere that are awake 24/7 so that when someone types in your URL in their browser, your website pops up on their computer. There are several services out there, but I chose HostGator for the same reasons I chose GoDaddy. And they have several upgrades available so I can add-on domains down the road.

After about 24 hours, I typed in my brand new URL and there it was, my very own website. Now it was time to really get busy and it turn into a money maker.
